Electric Rates

I support the continued use of PRPA (Platte River Power Authority) as our electric power provider and stand behind the Integrated Resource Plan (IRP) they’ve developed. This plan takes a smart, forward-looking approach by prioritizing the integration of renewable energy—like wind and solar—while keeping costs as low as possible for ratepayers. Recognizing that there will be times when renewable sources aren’t available—such as during dark, calm days—the IRP includes the use of a natural gas-fired “peaker” plant that would operate only when needed to maintain grid stability. This solution strikes a practical balance between sustainability and reliability, ensuring we can transition toward cleaner energy without compromising affordability or performance. It’s a realistic and responsible step forward for our community’s energy future.
